Toronto City Council, Ward 17 (Don Valley North)
Campaign Platform — Don Valley North
OUR PRIORITIES
01. Urban Cleanliness & Homelessness
Toronto’s homelessness crisis is putting pressure on shelters, parks, streets, and public spaces. Don Valley North needs practical solutions that improve cleanliness while connecting people experiencing homelessness with housing and support.
We will increase cleaning, expand outreach, accelerate affordable and transitional housing, and publish local results on cleanliness, response times, and people housed.
02. Seniors and Long Term Care
Thousands of Ontario seniors remain on long term care waitlists, often for years. Seniors in Don Valley North deserve better access to care and support.
We will push for more long term care beds, stronger home support, better services for caregivers, and greater transparency around wait times.
03. Don Valley Parkway Congestion
Traffic on the DVP is a daily frustration for Don Valley North residents. With the province taking over the DVP, residents need to see real improvements, not simply a change in ownership.
We will demand better construction coordination, stronger transit alternatives, and faster GO Transit and SmartTrack connections.
04. Family Housing Waitlists
Families across Toronto can wait years for affordable housing, leaving many in overcrowded or unsuitable homes. Don Valley North needs more family sized affordable housing.
We will push for more long term care beds, stronger home support, better services for caregivers, and greater transparency around wait times.
05. Employment Agencies
Employment agencies provide important support to newcomers and job seekers, but administrative delays can make accessing help frustrating and slow.
We will push for stronger accountability, connect agencies with local employers, and create a councillor’s office contact point to help residents navigate employment services.
06. Youth Entrepreneurship
Young entrepreneurs need easier access to funding, mentorship, and affordable spaces. Too much bureaucracy can prevent good ideas from becoming successful businesses.
We will create a local point of contact for entrepreneurs, improve access to existing programs, and explore a Don Valley North entrepreneurship fund or incubator.
07. Child Care Waitlists
Families are facing long waits for licensed child care, especially for infants and toddlers. Lower fees mean little if families cannot find a space.
We will support faster creation of child care spaces, simplify municipal processes for new centres, improve local information for families, and advocate for more early childhood educators.
08. Additional Ward Priorities
Families are facing long waits for licensed child care, especially for infants and toddlers. Lower fees mean little if families cannot find a space.
Improve TTC reliability, reduce traffic, and make major roads safer for pedestrians.
Support responsible development with affordable housing, strong infrastructure, parks, schools, and green space protection.
Strengthen community safety, services, recreation, and libraries while promoting responsible taxes and transparent City Hall spending.
